Mission Valley Swim Club was established in 1967, and has been in operation ever since.
The developer of the adjoining neighborhood set aside this land for a park or recreation use area. Several neighbors got together and asked the city to sell them the land at a very low price if they would develop a recreational swim club. The city was very happy to have someone else spend the money to develop this recreational area due to their lack of money for such projects.
The original plan-scape called for a separate diving pool, putt-putt green, sand volleyball court, and gazebo with covered walkways around the ground.
Part of the original property at the southeast corner of the lot was given or sold to a church who owned the adjoining property where the bagel shop is today. This property was sold or traded at a later date and the retail store built.
